Neonatal Units for premature babies in the NORTH WEST uk
If you give birth at your local maternity unit early and baby needs a stay in the Neonatal intensive care unit did you know that baby may have to spend time at another hospital if it doesnt have a specilist NICU unit.
Some hospitals only have a level 2 onwards such as HDU High dependancy unit or a level 3 specila care unit so depending how sick baby is will detemine where baby will go next after delivery.
here are some uk maternity units with NICU neonatal intensive care units attached. Some may be out of date as each hospital may get funding to expand or the NHS may take away a service if its not be used or to be closed etc (ie Royal Preston Hospital's neonatal unit is being expanded to accommodate 13 extra intensive care, high dependency and special care cots. )so check with your local hospital when you see your midwife at your antenatal visits just in case.
